A family of seven
arrived Tuesday, and you were there.

When Amira* walked through our doors on Tuesday morning, her five children trailing behind her, she carried two suitcases and a folder of paperwork. No winter coats. No groceries. No phone plan. Within forty-eight hours, because of subscribers and donors like you, they had all three, plus a warm apartment in Richardson and an ESL placement for the two school-age children. On Thursday, Amira brought coffee for our case manager. Before she left, she paused at the door. "In my country I was a nurse," she said. "Here, I want to learn so I can be one again." Lentil kofta, the Afghan way, a recipe from Chef Hiba.
