Refugee Story

The Sabbagh Family

After surviving a devastating bombing in Syria that killed two of their children and left the father permanently injured, the Sabbagh family arrived in Dallas seeking safety. DFWROS helped them rebuild with dignity, stability, and community.

Country: Syria

Why He Came to the U.S.

While enjoying a peaceful day at home with his family in Syria, Mohammad Sobhi Sabbagh’s life was forever changed when a bomb struck their residence. The tragic attack claimed the lives of two of their children and left Mohammad severely injured. He became partially paralyzed and lost much of his ability to speak fluently despite once being fluent in English.

To escape further bombings and the constant threat of violence and torture, the family made the painful but necessary decision to flee their homeland in search of safety. They arrived in Dallas on June 6, 2024, with four surviving children and a fifth on the way, carrying deep physical and emotional scars but also hope for a more stable future.
