Why He Came to the U.S.
Arifa fled Afghanistan in 2021 with her seven kids after the Taliban returned to power. Her family was targeted and abused her husband was even beaten and they feared for their lives daily. When the U.S. evacuation began, they were among the thousands who escaped and came to Dallas hoping for safety and stability.
At first, life in the U.S. seemed promising. But in 2023, while pregnant with her eighth child, Arifa’s husband now struggling with drug addiction kicked her out of the house, leaving her homeless and hopeless with all her children and no family to turn to.
